About Me

My photo
TJ Sullivan
I'm a writer, photog, and author of the novel "Boon" (Pub Date: 2/16/10). I've written for the LA Times, Chicago Trib, The Dallas Morning News, and many other publications. Although I spent the bulk of my years in newsrooms as either a full-time government or investigative reporter, the issues and events I've covered have varied greatly, from junkie jockeys on horse tracks in the high desert of New Mexico, to the hairsprayed heads of celebrities at the Academy Awards in LA. I once ran seven miles in the icy predawn of Santa Fe with former Gov. Gary Johnson, the same fitness-obsessed pol who reportedly advocated legalizing heroin. I interviewed President G.W. Bush during his 2000 campaign on the caboose of a train as a boy on a bicycle followed close behind, riding no-handed and flipping two birds. I spent a day with famed former child actor Jerry Mathers as he pitched an IMAX movie about Beavers in Albuquerque. And I was nearly slaughtered by a septuagenarian madman when I dared to shoot photographs outside the entrance of Hunter S. Thompson's Owl Farm in Aspen. I think HST summed it up best when he said something about being just another freak in the freak kingdom.
